[PHOTOS] College Softball: UCF Knights Shut Out UF Gators 7-0
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (FNN SPORTS) – The UCF Knights dominated the UF Gators at Katie Seashole Pressly Softball Stadium Wednesday.
The Knights gained swift momentum in the first inning with four points. The game began with them at bat; and Justene Molina scored the first run for UCF after making it to second base on her swing and Juliana Wilson followed with a successful single. With Shannon Doherty’s home run to left field next, Doherty and her two teammates Takiya London and Denali Schappacher all scored, rocketing the score to 4-0 at the top of the first. The Gators remained couldn’t provide an answer at the bottom of the first.
UCF’s Schappacher came through again with a run at the top of the second inning, bringing the score to 5-0. With still no answer, UF remained scoreless at the end of the second. UCF made their last points at the top of the third. With Katie Burge already on base, Jazmine Esparza hit a homer to left field, adding the Knights’ final two points to the board at 7-0.
In total, Florida had a total of three hits and 24 at bats. Hannah Adams, Emily Wilkie, Kendyl Lindaman, Julia Cottrill, Avery Goelz and Cheyenne Lindsey each had three swings. The Gators caused five UCF strikeouts while UCF caused UF eight.
The Knights have a five-game homestand next, starting with Wichita State Friday, April 16. The Gators next travel to Alabama to face the Crimson Tide April 16 at 7pm and return home to host FGCU April 21 at 7pm.
