State Representative Marie Woodson Travels to Haiti with Envoy to Address Political and Humanitarian Crisis in the Nation

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Today, August 30, 2021, State Representative Marie Woodson (D-Hollywood) of House District 101 travels to Haiti accompanied by a handful of other elected officials in an effort to meet with the current Prime Minister of Haiti Ariel Henry and other members of his cabinet. The envoy will meet to discuss the current political and humanitarian crisis taking place in Haiti and brainstorm solutions that can help the people of Haiti get back on their feet after the devastating 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit the country on Saturday, August 14, 2021. State Representative Marie Woodson stated, “I am truly heartbroken by the latest events that have brought my country of birth, Haiti, to both a political and humanitarian crisis. While thoughts and prayers are important—and greatly appreciated—it is imperative to take action. I want to express my gratitude to North Miami Councilman Alix Desulme for his leadership and to the National Haitian American Elected Officials Network (NHAEON) for taking the lead in ensuring transparency and accountability for the organizations bringing aid to Haiti. A special thank you to JetBlue Airlines for making it possible for the envoy to travel to Haiti in a safe and secure manner on such short notice during these difficult times. I am also grateful to my colleagues joining me on this trip for their commitment and dedication to serving. This trip will attempt to resolve many of the issues facing Haiti by creating a plan of action we can work on to help the nation heal.”
