Jaguars Extend Their 9-Game Losing Streak Against the Undefeated Steelers

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (FNN SPORTS) – The Jacksonville Jaguars suffered their ninth loss in a row against the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing before a socially distanced crowd of mostly black and yellow, with a little teal mixed in.

The Jaguars had the first score of the game with K Chase McLaughlin’s 41-yard field goal. The Steelers followed up with their own field goal attempt, but K Chris Boswell’s 45-yard kick went wide left. At the end of the first quarter, the Jags remained in the lead, 3-0. Boswell later redeemed himself with a 44-yard field goal to tie the game 3-3, and the Steelers pulled ahead 10-7 with QB Ben Roethlisberger’s 31-yard pass to WR Chase Claypool, and Boswell’s extra point. 

The Steelers extended their lead just before halftime with a one yard run by RB Benny Snell Jr. and Boswell extra point, putting them up 17-3. Jaguars Safety Daniel Thomas got the Jaguars fans pumped up when he intercepted a Roethlisberger pass in the end zone to prevent another Steelers score just before halftime as the clock ran out. 

The third quarter was relatively uneventful with no scoring. In the fourth quarter, the Steelers added a 47-yard Chris Boswell field goal and a 20-yard Roethlisberger touchdown pass to TE Eric Ebron, extending their lead to 27-3.

This was Jaguars QB Jake Luton’s 3rd NFL start, completing 16 of 37 passes for 151 yards with four interceptions. The Jaguars top performers included undrafted rookie RB James Robinson, who ended with 73 rushing yards and 21 yards receiving, and WR DJ Chark Jr., who finished with 41 receiving yards.

The announced crowd of 17,244 was the largest at TIAA Bank Field this season. The team continues to cap attendance at 25 percent of capacity. The Jaguars play at home again Sunday, 11/29, hosting the Cleveland Browns.
