Democratic Firebrand Alan Grayson could take on Marco Rubio for US Senate Seat
WINDERMERE, Fla. (FNN NEWS) – According to FEC records, Democratic former Representative and liberal firebrand Alan Grayson has filed to run for the U.S. Senate against Republican incumbent Marco Rubio next year.
Florida Politics reports that Grayson filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) Saturday to open up an exploratory effort for a possible run. He is not committing to actually running yet.
Raw Story reports that the FEC posted Grayson’s statement of candidacy, which designates the Committee to Elect Alan Grayson as the fundraising entity he would use for a potential 2022 Senate bid.

Grayson’s Push for Public Office
Grayson was first elected to Congress in 2008, but was defeated when he ran for re-election in 2010. He won again in 2012 and served two more terms.
Grayson tried to run against Sen. Rubio in 2016, but lost the Democratic primary to Patrick Murphy, who was also a U.S. representative at the time. Rubio consequently defeated Murphy.
When that didn’t work, Grayson ran again in 2018, this time for his old Congressional seat against fellow Democrat Darren Soto. He lost in what appeared to be a staggering rebuke of his aggressive campaign, at times attacking Soto.
Grayson ran again in 2020, this time as a write-in candidate against Republican Representative Mike Waltz in Florida’s 6th Congressional District.
According to FEC filings, Grayson’s Committee to Elect Alan Grayson has over $718,000 on hand. Guts PAC, otherwise known as The Resistance PAC or The Resistance, also aligned with Grayson, reported over $14,000 on hand at the end of 2020.
FEC filings show incumbent Sen. Rubio has roughly $3 million in his re-election fund as of 2021.
