Mayor Dyer, City Commissioner Bakari Burns Celebrate Newly Renovated Grand Avenue Park Grand Opening
ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN) – Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 6 City Commissioner Bakari F. Burns and community leaders planted a community tree to celebrate the grand reopening of Grand Avenue Park.
This park renovation, through a partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA)’s Parks Build Community program, added multiple playgrounds, fitness equipment, lighting, drinking fountains, and other park equipment to the nine-acre park.
In addition to the park, the redevelopment of the historic Grand Avenue Elementary School into a neighborhood center will bring forth more opportunities for the community. Construction continues at the Grand Avenue neighborhood center and will feature a full size gymnasium and be the new location for an expanded Orlando Pottery Studio. These improvements will also expand City services to offer youth programs as well. This includes recreation and sports programs, Holden Heights Kidz Zone, and after-school and summer programs.
