Orange County State Reps Brown, Morales, Eskamani, Truenow Get Special Session Committee Assignments on Gaming

ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN NEWS) – On Friday, four State Representatives of the Orange County State Legislative Delegation, Kamia Brown (D-45), Daisy Morales (D-48), Anna Eskamani (D-47), and Keith Truenow (R-31) were named by House Speaker Chris Sprowls to serve on select committees and subcommittees on gaming during this week’s Special Session.

The Florida legislature will kick off Monday to take up a new gambling compact with the Seminole Tribe.

The 75-page document will determine the future of gaming in the state and the legislature must ratify the compact before it goes into effect. If blessed, leaders expect the state to generate $2.5 billion in new revenue over the next five years and $6 billion through 2030.

State Rep. Kamia Brown of Ocoee will serve on the Select Committee on Gaming, led by Chair Randy Fine and Vice Chair Elizabeth Fetterhoff.

State Rep. Anna Eskamani of Winter Park and freshman State Rep. Daisy Morales of Orlando will serve on the Select Subcommittee on the Seminole Gaming Compact, led by Chair Nick DiCeglie and Vice Chair Tommy Gregory.

Freshman State Rep. Keith Truenow of Tavares will serve on the Select Subcommittee on Gaming Regulation, led by Chair Chuck Brannan and Vice Chair Cord Byrd.

No other state representative of the Orange County State Legislative Delegation was selected to serve on the Select Subcommittee on Authorized Gaming Activity, led by Chair Brad Drake and Vice Chair Cyndi Stevenson.

The Florida special session will feature 13 gaming bills, all filed Friday, with Sen. Travis Hutson (R) sponsoring all nine proposed Senate measures that will go before the Senate Appropriations Committee on Monday and Tuesday. Two of the four House bills were sponsored by Rep. Josie Tomkow (R), with the other two filed by multiple sponsors.
