Tampa Bay Lightning Recall Goaltender Brandon Halverson from AHL Syracuse

TAMPA BAY (FNN SPORTS) – The Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled goaltender Brandon Halverson from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager Julien BriseBois announced today.

Halverson’s Strong Performance in the AHL

The 28-year-old netminder has been a key performer for Syracuse this season, appearing in 34 games and posting an impressive 16-9-8 record. Halverson has maintained a 2.32 goals-against average (GAA) and a .916 save percentage (SV%), ranking among the AHL’s top goaltenders.

Notable season stats:

  • 4 shutouts (T-4th in AHL)
  • 2.32 GAA (8th in AHL)
  • Recorded an assist on March 15 against the Springfield Thunderbirds, his first since the 2016-17 season

The 6-foot-5, 235-pound goaltender has now played in 100 career AHL games, split between Syracuse Crunch and Hartford Wolf Pack.

Halverson’s NHL Journey & New Lightning Contract

Originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the second round (59th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft, Halverson made his NHL debut on February 17, 2018, with the Rangers.

Most recently, Halverson signed a two-year NHL contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning on February 3, 2025, solidifying his future within the organization and adding valuable goaltending depth to Tampa Bay’s roster.

With his call-up to the Lightning, Halverson will provide additional goalie support as the team navigates the final stretch of the 2024-25 NHL season.
