SAN JUAN, PR. (FNN NEWS) – The Puerto Rico House of Representatives recognized Florida State Representative Daisy Morales during its session Tuesday in honor of her efforts to strengthen relations between her state office and the island’s government.

Elected November 2020, State Representative Daisy Morales became the highest ranking Puerto Rican woman elected official in Florida, representing Florida House District 48 in Orlando, Orange County. District 48 has a large Puerto Rican population out of the 1.2 million Puerto Ricans living in Florida.

This is Morales’s first trip to her home island of Puerto Rico as Florida State Representative.

After meeting with House Speaker Rafael Hernàndez Montañez, and Rep. Morales earlier at Puerto Rico Capitol, Rep. Luis R. Ortiz Lugo announced the recognition on the House floor to Rep. Morales, who was located in the gallery due to COVID-19 protocols.

“It was an honor to be welcomed by members of Puerto Rico’s Senate and House to the Capitol to discuss issues important to Puerto Ricans here on the island and in Florida,” Morales said. “The second class treatment of Puerto Ricans must come to an end.

“I also look forward to working with the government, businesses and community leaders in Puerto Rico to discuss what more we can do to help Puerto Rico recover and rebuild after suffering an economic crisis, disastrous hurricanes (Irma and Maria), and earthquakes,” Morales added.
