Jaguars Break Their Single Season Record with Tenth Consecutive Loss

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (FNN SPORTS) – The Jacksonville Jaguars (1-10) lost to the Cleveland Browns (8-3) 27-25 at TIAA Bank Field Sunday. This was their tenth loss in a row, breaking their record for consecutive losses in a single season. The Jaguars’ all-time record is 13 losses in a row over the 2012-2013 seasons.

Jags QB Mike Glennon had his first start since 2017, as Gardner Minshew II continues to recover from a thumb injury, and rookie Jake Luton was moved to backup duty after throwing four interceptions against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week.

The Jaguars had the first score of the game with a 53-yard field goal by their practice squad kicker, Aldrick Rosas. But the Browns followed up with a touchdown pass by QB Baker Mayfield to WR Jarvis Landry, putting them up 7-3 at the end of the first quarter. 

Aldrick Rosas followed up with a 24-yard field goal for the Jaguars, while Cleveland K Cody Parkey extended the Browns’ lead with his own 24-yard field goal. Mike Glennon’s 46-yard touchdown pass to WR Collin Johnson and an extra point by Rosas brought the Jaguars back up 13-10, but Baker Mayfield’s nine-yard touchdown pass to TE Austin Hooper put the Browns ahead 17-13 at halftime. 

Early in the third quarter, Jaguars LB Joe Schobert forced a fumble by Browns TE Harrison Bryant, which S Andrew Wingard recovered, firing up the Jacksonville crowd. The scoring drive culminated in a two-yard touchdown pass by Mike Glennon to TE Tyler Eifert, putting the Jaguars up 19-17. Many Jacksonville fans were critical of a failed two-point conversion attempt. The Browns later pulled ahead 20-19 with a 44-yard Cody Parkey field goal. 

Early in the fourth quarter, Browns RB Nick Chubb ran the ball into the end zone for a one-yard touchdown, extending their lead, 27-19. Jaguars RB James Robinson had a four-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter, but another failed two-point conversion attempt left them behind the Browns with a 27-25 final score.

The Jaguars relied heavily on RB James Robinson, who finished with 128 yards rushing and 31 yards receiving, and one touchdown. Robinson remains on track to break the record for most scrimmage yards by an undrafted rookie. WR Collin Johnson finished with 96 yards receiving and a touchdown. WR Keelan Cole Sr. had 44 yards receiving. QB Mike Glennon ended with 235 yards passing (and six yards rushing) with two touchdowns. WR Laviska Shenault returned after a two-game absence due to a hamstring injury and had 31 yards receiving and six yards rushing.

This team has been challenged with previous injuries to many key players, including WR DJ Chark and DE Josh Allen. LB Dakota Allen suffered an ankle injury during the game, and missed the second half. Defensive coordinator Todd Wash also missed today’s game because of COVID-19 protocols. 

Today’s attendance was 15,926, as the team continues to limit attendance to no more than 25 percent capacity. The Jaguars travel north to play the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, December 6 at 1 p.m. at U.S. Bank Stadium. No fans will be in attendance.
